How can we help people with Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia?
We at Living Fully at Home use occupational therapy practitioners to better understand the needs of people who have dementia and to find innovative, evidence-based ways to enable greater participation in daily activities. Our primary goal is to work closely with clients, family and caregivers to understand their desires, preferences and needs
We do this by:
- Assessing the client's abilities and focusing on strength-based interventions
- Providing real and practical suggestions for the client to participate in activities that are modified to the client's current abilities and previous interests
- Creating a sense of self for the client through meaningful activity and engagement
- Providing strategies and methods for the caregivers and family on how to address difficult behaviors
